CCS extra photoHilarious! This is my first historical western romantic comedy and I had so much fun reading Cowboy Charm School. It’s also my first book by Margaret Brownley, but will definitely not be the last.

From the first scene at the chapel to the Happily-Ever-After Epilogue, this book thoroughly entertains. With engaging characters from the small town of Haywire coming to life in the pages of the book, Cowboy Charm School is just the thing we need to take our minds off the harsh realities of life even for just a few hours. Frank is a bumbling hoot, Aunt Letty is a lovable meddler, Dusty just makes you want to hug him, and Ringo is a star.

The slow build-up of attraction between the hero Texas Ranger Brett Tucker and the heroine Kate Denver is as sweet as the candies she makes in her store. Kate is creative, kind, caring, and has a backbone of steel. Brett, with his earnest desire to seeing to Kate’s safety and happiness even if it means letting her go, is the perfect hero during these times when women are hurting and needing the assurance that there are still a lot of good guys out there. He’s why we read romance.

Original story with loads of humor, delectable candy concoctions, a little bit of mystery, and a whole lotta love – Cowboy Charm School is a five-star read for me. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Spouse to a USAF Veteran and mother to a kid who loves Texas and Super Mario, Maida writes multicultural contemporary romances set all over the world. At some point in her life, Maida has lived and worked in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States so it’s not surprising those are favorite locations for her novels.

Maida studied several languages and can speak English, Filipino, Indonesian, French, and Thai in various degrees of fluency.

I received this book as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.

When an author is a friend, especially the longer I know them, I often worry about their book possibly disappointing me, as tastes can differ widely, as I have found from my experience as a member of a number of book groups. But my fears with Maida Malby’s debut were unfounded. In fact, her book is one of those rare debut novels that not only shows the promise of the writer, but will instantly suck you in.

She strikes a great balance between an authentic exploration of Filipino culture, including language and cuisine, as well as family values, with which she is obviously familiar, and presenting the characters as people

This quote inspired me to write multicultural romance novels with Filipino heroes and heroines. Before I wrote my first novel Boracay Vows in 2016, I read around 400 books a year, ninety percent of which are romance. I can count on one hand the number of interracial romance books which have a Filipina as the main character paired with an American hero. Rainne Mendoza’s first book Fabolous, with a Filipina heroine and a Japanese-American hero, and Tif Marcelo’s multicultural romance series Journey to the Heart encouraged me to contribute my own work to the growth of this small section of the fiction sub-genre.

Giving, the final two days

My friend Linda is donating proceeds from her book sales to the Red Cross for Puerto Rico relief. Kindly support her in her charitable efforts.

On September 23rd, just over a month ago, I announced that until October 31st I would give all the proceeds from my books as donations to those in need after the hurricanes. I was hoping to raise loads of money; unfortunately I only managed about $18.00.

I’ve decided, therefore, to give all of the money to the Red Cross, to help the people of Puerto Rico. It’s not much–yet. But there are still two days to go. So in a last-ditch attempt to give aid where it’s needed, I pledge to match all the proceeds from my books sold until October 31st, 2017, at 11:59pm, with my own money.* That means if you buy All Good Stories, $o.70 will go to charity.
